National Super.
Sir,—ln a recent reply to one of your correspondents, the Minister of War Pensions, Mr Thomson, concluded as follows: “I would stress that any decision to transfer to National Superannuation in no way reduces the gratitude and esteem which the Government and New Zealand society in general holds for those persons who have served their country in war-time.” I find it difficult to reconcile this statement when one considers the large disparity between the war service pension and National Superannuation after tax and which the recent Budget made worse. Words do not put any bread on the table and the present situation reflects little credit on those concerned. — Yours, etc., R. F. CLARK. October 10, 1982.
