‘Malaise’ hits fifth forms

Greymouth reporter

A "malaise" has hit the fifth forms at the. Greymouth High School, its board of governors was told by the Principal, Mr D. W. Hinch. on Monday evening. Many of the fifth-formers were not working although external examinations were approaching, he said. Pupils had been saying that there were no jobs available for them, and so it

did not matter if they passed their examinations because they would be returning to school next year in any case, Mr Hinch said. Various staff sub-commit-tees' had been discussing the problem, he said, and a series of support courses for the 1983 fifth form were being planned. These would offer a range of skills based on similar lines to the successful sixth form cottage course.
