Kenya for 1990 Games?

PA- Auckland The Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, believes the 1990 Commonwealth Games arc more likely to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, than in Auckland. “ Mr Muldoon said in Auckland yesterday on his return from Brisbane that Kenya had never staged the Games,

while New Zealand had held them twice. That, he said, put New Zealand at a disadvantage. . -■ “If we get them, that is great andthey will be supported by* the Government,” said Mr Muldoon. “But, in fairness, I would have to say that Kenya must have the edge on us if it wants them, and it does,

because the Games have never been held there.” The Mayor of Auckland, Mr Colin Kay, shared Mr Muldoon’s feelings about Auckland’s not being allotted the 1990 Games. “New Zealand has had the Games twice,” he said. “I think we would probably be stretching our luck to expect them for a third time before

an African country or one of the others has had them.” However, there was no reason Auckland should not put its case for the 1990 Games as hard as it could. “If Auckland misses in 1990 I presume we will be queuing for 1994,” Mr Kay said.
