Dick Quax wins
PA Napier Dick Quax (Auckland) cruised to’.a comfortable win in the senior- 16km event at the National Road Race Championships at Napier on Saturday. Quax burned off Taranaki's Paul Ballinger in the last lap to win by 26 seconds in 47min 595. The two dominated the race which was run in strong, gusty winds around the streets "of Tamatea. a suburb of Napier. At the halfway mark they were 150 m ahead of the third place-getter, John Dixon (Tasman). Auckland's Barbara Moore became only the second person to win three national women's 6km titles when she headed home the defending champion. Mary O'Conner.
Moore, who won in 1976 and 1978, joins the double Brisbane Commonwealth
Games bronze medallist. Lorraine Moller, as the onlyathlete to win the title three times.
Chris McLay (Waikato) had a surprisingly easy win in the junior men's Bkm. He won in 24min 53s from Matthew Squires (Wellington).
