Williams suspended
PA Auckland Tony Williams, the rider of Calamar. which finished third in the Glen Innes Maiden at Ellerslie on Saturday. was suspended up to and including Friday. Williams was found guilty of allowing his mount to crowd Sirex and Cheyne's Pal during the early stages of the race. Shortly after the start of the Willow Handicap. Eclat
fractured her off-hind leg. and. in falling, also broke her off-fore leg. Eclat was destroyed. Her rider. Earl ' Harrison, sustained bruising to his shoulder and was stood down for
the rest of the day. Think Legs was a late scratching from the Sapling Handicap after receiving a kick on the stifle from another horse while being paraded at the barrier. Craigman was a late scratching from the Onehunga Steeplechase because his replacement rider. Mr Mike Brown, was unable to secure suitable riding gear. No other rider was available to ride the horse.
Michael Thomas, the rider of Chinook in the Glen Innes Maiden, was fined $3O for careless riding. Chinook was found to have caused El Doon to be checked in the run home.
