Overseas meat markets
There was some improvement in off-take of New Zealand lamb on United Kingdom wholesale markets as prices for domestic supplies increased, reports the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board in its weekly market survey. On Smithfield market New Zealand lamb was quoted at 55-57.5 pence per lb for PL grade, and 55-57 pence per lb for PM grade.
With most of New Zealand and Australian beef from the 1982 quota now sold, sales in the, United States have been
on a trader-to-tender basis. Converted to a c.i.f. equiva- j lent, New Zealand cowbeef j averaged 105.5 cents per I pound, down a cent on the previous week, while bullbeef was steady at 120 cents per lb.
The only sales of mutton to Japan were small quantities of boneless product from Australia, but none from New Zealand.
