Birthday surprise for P.M.
PA • Dunedin Reaching 61 years on Saturday was almost like a working day for the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, but he had two surprises — a family reunion far from his Wellington home, and a giant birthday cake.
Mr Muldoon travelled to Dunedin to reopen the renovated Southern Cross Hotel and unknown to ■. him, his daughters, Barbara and Jenny, were flown to Dunedin, too, by the hotel’s directors and the Wellington businessman, Mr Bob Jones. It was Mr Muldoon’s' twenty-second birthday since becoming a member of Parliament in 1960, which adds up to a lot of late nights.
“I keep fit, I look after myself, and I get plenty of sleep,” Mr Muldoon said. “I feel the same as I did 10 years ago.” 7 *
His wife, Thea,, who accompanied' him to Dunedin, kept up her custom of ties for’his birthday.
