Bonnington’s title
A former New Zealand amateur representative. Alex Bonnington, of Auckland, won the Waitikiri charity golf pro-am at the Waitikiri Golf Club’s course in Christchurch yesterday. Bonnington carded a twounder par 69 to win by two strokes from fellow professionals Stephen Patersori (Christchurch). Pat Mateer (U.S.A.), Mike Moynihan (Auckland) and Kim Southenden (Napier). lan Sturrock (Russley) and John Bone. (Waitikiri). both with 745, were the best amateurs. Ross Murray, of Timaru, ,was next in the amateur field with a 75 — recorded at the same course
on which he won the New Zealand amateur title in 1971. Meanwhile, top honours in the Avondale club’s pro-am in Christchurch on Saturday were shared between four players who shot two-under-par 68s. They were Grant Purcey, aged 18, an assistant professional at the Russley Golf Club, Colin Caldwell (Christchurch), Richard Coombes (Wellington) and Geoff Smart (Coringa). . Next from the field of 244 players were . Stephen Charles (Christchurch), Paul Fisher (Auckland), Gary Par- ' kinson (Auckland). Ricky Barker (Auckland) and David Good (Tasmania), . who carded 695.
