N.Z. rowing win

NZPA Sydney New Zealand's tremendous depth in rowing was driven home by its crushing win over New South Wales in the first test of the Tasman Colts regatta on the Nepean River at Penrith. •In a devastating performance. the Kiwis wiped out the memory of last year's Tasman defeat by thrashing N.S.W, 58-33. to take a one-nil lead in the three-test series. A brilliant victory by the Colts' heavy weight ’ four paved the way for New Zealand's triumph. The fours blitzed N.S.W. by six lengths in a display that shattered the Blue's former New Zealand coach, Mr Rusty Robertson.

But' equally impressive was New Zealand’s surprise victory in the light weight fours, where it cruised to an effortless win by more than two lengths over the highly fancied N.S.W. crew. As expected, the New Zealand eight proved to be far too strong for its N.S.W. and A.C.T. rivals in the blue ribbon event. In the wake of New Zealand’s.'gold medal triumph in the eights at last month’s world championships, several of the Kiwis'Colts crew are vying for senior selection and had to turn on a brjlliant display. It was a similar story in the women’s events where New Zealand outpointed N.S.W. , 16-12.
