Schools cup to Papanui
Papantii High School retained the inter-collegiate rugby league trophy, the Ham Cup. when it beat Burnside High School. 22-11. at the Show Grounds on Saturday evening. It was the last challenge match of the season, and Papanui performed most impressively to earn the right to be regarded as the premier rugby league school in Christchurch.
After leading by only 11-8 at half-time. Papanui had to defend
stoutly for most of the third quarter as Burnside several times came close to drawing level. But Papanui made its winning break when the thrustful centre. .Martin Davidson, scored his second and third tries. Scorers.Papanui 22 (M. Davidson three. S. Phillips. B. Campbell, M. Tauoi tries; Davidson, M. Taylor goals) beat Burnside 11 (N. Ward. K. Schwaiger. M. Smith tries; B. Williams goal).
