Judge fines man $75 for receiving flag
PA Wellington Policemen who were searching for drugs discovered a City of Wellington flag, the District Court in Wellington has been told. Gregory Michael Christie., aged 18.'admitted receiving the flag, the property of the Wellington City Council, knowing it was dishonestly obtained. Judge Bathgate fined him $75. Sergeant McKinnon said that on May 18. the police executed a search warrant under the Misuse of DrugsAct on Christie's address.
When searching a bedroom they found a City of Wellington flag hanging on the wall. Christie had admitted the flag was stolen, but said he did not steal it. . Christie had moved into his brother’s flat and found the flag in his brother's suitcase. counsel said. When Christie had spoken to his brother about the flag, he had said it had been given to him. . "It has not been possible to • substantiate that, and it is accepted that the flag was i --stolen from ttie council." he " said. ' 1 '
