McCabe, said that he had advised some camperi who had contacted him. to write to the council if they wanted to apply for a concession. The ’Mayor, Mr K. H. Cumberland, said that the council should be careful, because of the price freeze. "We should tell these people they have paid that in the past and pay it again this year and that it will go up after the price, freeze." hi said. Rubbish removal The works committee has held over a request for consideration of a further increase in rubbish .removal charges. i The contractor! was granted an increase ef 15 per cent from the beginning of April, after requeuing a 24.15 per cent increase. A 16.5 per cent cost increase has now been 1 detaled to support a request foqa further 1.5 per cent incnase. .“If he wants this go through Trade and Industry.” Mr Cumberland slid. “I don't know how it haspome to this in such a short tjbte." If approved, .the firther

increase would bring the contract price to $16’248 a year. The request has been held over until the end of the price freeze. Rubbish committee The works committee has suggested writing to other North Canterbury local authorities inviting’ them tc expand the terms of reference of the joint health in Spectors' committee to cover rubbish disposal in the area. The works committee chairman. Cr McAllister • said that it would he 10 or 15 years before other authori- ■ ties were in the same position as Kaiapoi regarding rubbish disposal, but that now was the time to get something organised. Mr Cumberland said that the situation at the dump was quite satisfactory at the moment and no problems were expected within five years. Metro committee The works committee declined to make any comments on a suggestion made to the Metropolitan Refuse Disposal Committee that the appointment of a toxic wastes officer be examined. "We - must bear in mind that in two months,we may not be part of this (the Metro Refuse Disposal Committee)." Mr Cumberland said.

"Industry causes these products and should alleviate its problems without asking local authorities to do it for them." .he said. This was asking ratepayers to pay for industry, he said.
