Air chiefs detained
NZPA-Reuter Harare The Chief of Staff and Chief of Operations of Zimbabwe's Air Force have been detained by security officials. Family friends said that Air Vice-Marshal Hugh Slatter and Air Commodore Phillip Pile had been seized on Monday last week. The family friends said they did not'know why the men were being held, and there had been no government comment on the detentions. Eleven people were detained in July after a sabotage attack which destroyed or damaged 13 aircraft’ at Thornhill Air Force Base near the Midlands town of Gweru (formerly Gwelo). about 200 km from the capital. Harare.
