Admiral Sir Gordon Tait, of Auckland, who has been appointed to the board of the Mount Cook Group, Ltd, to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr A. R. Giles, of Napier, in August. Sir Gordon was born in Timaru and was a career officer in the Royal Navy, joining in 1939 and retiring in 1979. He saw service in submarines and rose to Second Sea Lord, 1977-79. He is a director of the Bank of New South Wales (West Pac), Todd Motors Corporation, Todd Bros, Ltd, and is President of the New Zealand Sports Federation, and a board member of the Spirit of Adventure Trust. Mr Giles had been a member of the transport industry since 1927 and joined the Mount Cook board after the merger with the Hawke’s Bav Motor Company, in’l972.
