Belfast School protest
Sir,—Referring to the article “Parents plan protest" (“The Press,” August 21), in connection with the removal of a classroom at Belfast School. I was one of the parents who initially requested a meeting, at Belfast School, between the general manager of the Canterbury Education Board and school committee members, to point out' the many reasons why it was so impractical to remove the classroom in question. He denied us a meeting. The points Mr Wilson has neglected to mention in this article are: (1) Because of the layout of the school, the classroom to be removed is from the infant school where numbers are high already. (2) The roll in this section is increasing. (3) In order to accommodate them all, some infants will be split up from their peer group as they will have to be put at opposite ends of the school. This seems totally impractical.—Yours. etc., (MRS) M. LAURENSON. August 22. 1982.
