Discrimination alleged
Parliamentary reporter The member of Parliament for Lyttelton, Mrs Ann Hercus, will complain to the Human Rights Commission that the Price Freeze Regulations are discriminatory. She said the commission had just .ruled that an exemption of high-fashion clothing from the Regulations was discriminatory but
not unlawful. This was because of a clause- in the commission’s empowering legislation which said, in effect, that if another law existed it took priority. That other law was the price freeze regime, Mrs Hercus said. The question now had to be asked if the regulations themselves were discriminatory.
