PA Wellington The Minister of Education (Mr Wellington) has pushed a button in the National Library to activate New Zealand’s new computerised library network. The opening of the New Zealand Bibliographic Network (N.Z.8.N.) represents a significant advance in international library co-operation. The system, financed by the National Library, will be used for National Library cataloguing for two years, and its capacity developed for a national network of libraries. Based on the principle of shared cataloguing, the N.Z.B.N.’s data base is the largest in New Zealand. It
contains bibliographic records for books catalogued by the Library of Congress since 1968, by the National Library of Canada 1974-75 and 1980 onwards, by the British Library, 1980 onwards, and by the. National Library of Australia since 1972. ■ The network will make inter-library lending possible on a local or regional basis to an extent not previously possible.
