Works plant being sold
Parliamentary reporter Earthworks at the Upper Waitaki power project were 99 per cent complete, said the Minister of Justice (Mr McLay) in Parliament yesterday. Because of this the need for some plant and machinery had declined. Some items had been sold, returning “fair" prices to the Government. and some had been transferred to other Government departments. A programme for the disposal of the remaining plant was being prepared. Mr McLay denied a suggestion that plant was being sold to private companies at “knock down" prices. When plant was sold it was auctioned and in most cases a reserve price was set. “The equipment is being sold because it has reached the end of its economic life," he said, ■-
