Dog pound
Sir, — Regarding the Christchurch City Council dog pound, no amount of defensive talking from those upholding the merits of the place denies the fact that despite the area of land available, the resultant building denies sunshine and outlook for the dogs housed there in concrete pens. It is ludicrous that the containing of subsequent noise within high concrete walls was considered paramount in an area comparatively devoid of housing, when the Addington Saleyards have functioned for years in close proximity to housing and city — minus walls. Most dogs are impounded for man’s misdeeds and a number pay with their lives'. How easy it is for those in warm and luxurious offices to dictate their fate, while justifying decisions and actions with hollow-bottomed arguments. Let us face it: the building of this pound was a retrograde and expensive step and indisputable evidence of man’s ineffectiveness in coping with a situation he created. — Yours, etc.,
(MRS) ESTELLE WIN. August 15, 1982.
