Hewson on target

PA Dunedin The All Black fullback, Allan Hewson had the last laugh over his detractors yesterday when he kicked 15 points in Wellington’s 27-21 win over Otago in a national championship rugby match at Ca'risbrook. Each side scored three tries—including a penalty try apiece—but Hewson’s accurate left boot kept Wellington comfortably in front. He was frequently booed by a small section of the crowd of about 4000 but after missing three of his first four attempts he was on target with his last five. Wellington scored three converted tries in the last 11 minutes of the first spell to

spurt to a 21-9 lead. It coasted for much of the second half and Otago gained some respectability with two converted tries in the last quarter. Stu Wilson showed his. class with a scorching 35metre run and then was replaced at half-time by fellow All Black wing, Bernie Fraser, who had the dubious distinction of conceding the second penalty try of the game. Scorers.—Wellington: John Heale, Stuart Wilson, tries; penalty try; Allan Hewson 3 conversions, 3 penalties; Otago: John Waldron, Ken Bloxham, tries;' penalty try; David Halligan 3 conversions, penalty.
