Government policy
Sir,—A few weeks ago the R.N.Z. Wednesday play portrayed New Zealand as a dictatorship. Subliminal messages on TV kept the natives docile and unquestioning. All pretty horrifying, futuristic stuff, one might say? But recent events in New Zealand practically parallel much portrayed. We do not seem to need the added garnish of subliminal messages to keep us docile. Mike Minogue seems to be the solitary ' voice of principle crying out in the wilderness of Government' expediency. It has been said the law is an ass — certainly as our erstwhile democracy continues on the fast-track to dictatorship it is being made to look one.—Yours, etc., JILL WILCOX. July 14, 1982.
