Team to play ’Boks
NZPA . London The party of 20 Europeanrugby players arrived in Johannesburg yesterday for a three-match tour of South Africa. Four more, including the Irish captain of the side, Fergus Slattery, will arrive in the next few days. When complete, the team, managed by Mr Syd Millar and coached by Mr Willie John Mcßride, will include eight players from England, seven from Wales, five from Ireland and two each from Scotland and France. The first game will be on Saturday in Johannesburg against Transvaal, the second against Western Province in Capetown on July 20 and the last against South Africa in Johannesburg on
July 24. Two Coloured (mixed race)
South African players, Frank Davids and Errol Tobias, are expected to join the normally all-white Transvaal and national teams for the first and third games. A Johannesburg newspaper said Millar had demanded the inclusion of non-whites, but on arrival Millar said he had made no suggestions to South African team selectors.
