Tenants ‘vulnerable’
The Church and Society Commission of the National Council of Churches is. concerned about what it sees as the vulnerability of tenants during the freeze on rents. The commission has said it is critical of the passive role being played by the Housing Corporation. The request that tenants should first consult their own. lawyers if they suspected landlords were violating the regulations, imposed un-
necessary costs on tenants, and allowed the Housing Corporation to evade its enforcement responsibilities, said the commission in a letter to the Minister of Housing (Mr Friedlander). It has urged the Minister to ensure that enough Housing ■ Corporation staff are available to police the price freeze regulations, and to provide tenants with adequate advice if they are faced with rent rises.
