Higher charges deplored

PA Wellington Increased Government charges on passports and citizenship applications were extortionate and made a mockery of the price freeze, Labour's spokesman on Internal Affairs, Mr E. E. Isbey, has said. The fee for a passport rose from $2O to $3O and for a citizenship application from $2O to $5O on July 1. "The charge for passports is excessive and amounts to nothing more than another hidden tax on foreign travel," Mr Isbey said.

He said the increase also in the cost of submitting a film to the Censor, from $lOO to $230, would lead to dearer cinema admission prices.
