Rebel Soccer tour of South Africa?

NZPA London British soccer internationals are included in a rebel “World XI” team to tour South Africa for an eight match series later this month, it has been reported in London. The tour has been arranged by the South African Football Union who are offering more than £1.5 million to secure players. South African officials are reportedly negotiating with players during the World Cup in Spain. They are chasing mainly ageing stars with big names from throughout Europe. They are also believed to be after the England captain, Kevin Keegan, and other stars. SoiTth Africa was sus-

pended from international soccer competitions because of the country’s apartheid policy. ; F.1.F.A., the game’s governing body, is aware of the tour and is reportedly worried about the success of South Africa’s talent scouts. Anti-apartheid officials flew to Madrid yesterday to discourage players thinking about the trip. The tour is the second to take part along these lines in South Africa this year. English cricket is still recovering from the effects of a renegade tour of England team members to South Africa earlier this year. The players, among them the leading test batsman, Geoff Boycott, were suspended from England’s test side for three years.
