Cassidy fails

By

W.R. CARSTON

A small army of followers of the country's top rider. Jim Cassidy, received a bleak return for their loyalty at Ashburton yesterday.

The successful Hastings horseman, who has already ridden 107 winners this season, failed to improve that record yesterday. The best that he’could manage from eight mounts was a couple of minor placings. Cassidy managed to get Arrjon into third place with a last-to-third run in the second leg of the double and missed victory by only a nose on Rampart in the Second Seafield Handicap.

No one could deny that with some of the material he had to work with the odds were heavily stacked against success. The finishing positions of his other six mounts in order were Super Joy (seventeenth). Ki Nadi (fourteenth). Rutland's Pride (sixteenth). Sovereign's Will (fifth). Hands 'N' Heels (fifth), and Katiki Gold (sixteenth).
