Police and M.O.T.
Sir,—Over the last two weeks I have seen three articles in “The Press” concerning proposed savings by the police. It would appear that the police force is considering the proposal of closing stations in order to meet the Government’s three per cent cuts in costs. Whether this proposal takes effect is yet to be seen. It would appear to be a negative proposal as crime and social problems continue to increase. Surely a more obvious solution would be the amalgamation of the Ministry of Transport with the police. The cost to the Government of running two separate departments to do the same job must exceed any 3 per cent cuts to the Police Force's budget. It is not as if the police do not deal with traffic matters. They deal with all fatal traffic accidents and some other traffic matters.— Yours, etc., ALAN PERRY. June 25, 1982. I
