Cycling to Lincoln
Sir,-A student is in Christchurch Hospital with injuries suffered from an accident with a car while he was cycling to Lincoln College today. Would a cycle lane have prevented this accident? The need for a cycle lane to Lincoln College along Springs Road has been growing each year, because of increased petrol and car ' costs, and more students having an awareness for their environment and an enjoyment of cycling. There is a widened road from Halswell Junction to Prebbleton and this is a much safer stretch of road than the narrow road from Prebbleton to Lincoln College. White lines and cycle symbols should be painted on this widened stretch of road so that motorists are aware of cyclists.—Yours, etc.. PHILIP J. HENDERSON. June 15, 1982.
