Anderson killing clues sought
Detectives investigating the killing of Mr Alfred Anderson have spoken to about 2000 people during the 13-day inquiry. About 60 members of the public have come forward as a result of appeals for information, but the homicide inquiry team has been unable to achieve a breakthrough in the case. Yesterday, the police took the unusual step of opening a Post Office box — P.O. Box
1500, Christchurch — to which information which might help to trace the killer can be sent anonymously. The officer in charge of the case, Detective Inspector R. G. McMeeking, yesterday gave a guarantee of confidentiality to anyone who wrote to the box number. Mr McMeeking also said that he, personally, was prepared to meet anyone, anywhere, at any time'about the case.'
Mr Anderson, aged 64, was found dead in his flat in Hastings Street, Waltham, on the Saturday morning of Queen’s Birthday week-end.. He had been slashed about the throat and head. Detectives believe that the killer might also have suffered cuts or abrasions, possibly to the hands, during the attack on Mr Anderson. Anyone who saw a person with such injuries about the time of the killing, should get in touch with the police,
