Derailment cleared
PA Dunedin Railways staff worked through Wednesday night to right six derailed goods waggons at Shag Point, 68km north of Dunedin. The track was clear for the northbound Southerner at 1 p.m. yesterday. The goods train was travelling from Christchurch to Dunedin on Thursday evening when the six rear
waggons left the line at 10.45 p.m. Other goods services were extensively delayed as there was damage to 100 m of ■ track. There were no injuries. The Dunedin train-running officer, Mr John Morris, said •yesterday that the backlog of goods would not be cleared until the early hours of today.
