Charleston
Mitchell’s Gully Gold Mine which has been reconstructed on the site of the original workings at Charleston, 28km south of Westport. Visitors can watch the gold extraction process as the stamping battery and overshot wheel grind away. At the height of the gold rush in the 1860 s, Charleston
boasted a population of 12,000 and 101 hotels. Only one tavern remains.
