Hopes of halving bus fares
Lyttelton residents using Christchurch Transport Board buses may soon have their fares halved. Members of the Lyttelton Borough Council's finance committee heard last evening that the board had offered to remove the 100 per cent surcharge on all fares from Lyttelton if the council paid a subsidy of $33,573. This would mean Lyttelton bus patrons would pay only 60c instead of $1.20 for a ride to Cathedral Square. Committee members decided to discuss the board’s proposal at the council’s estimates meeting. The surcharge has been in effect since early this year.
