Assistance for squash players
Three leading South Island junior squash players. Kelvin Kennedy (Timaru Celtic), Susan Wasley (Burnside), and Steven Wren (Sumner), will receive travel assistance to the New Zealand age-group championships in Cambridge next month. The names of the players were announced by the national junior selectors at the conclusion of the recent South Island junior championships in Invercargill. Miss Wasley won the girls' under 19 title at the championships While the Bav of Plenty junior. Tonv Fuller, had a surprise win over Burnside's Mark Crosbie in the boys' under 19 final.
Leading results of the players from Canterbury and West Coast were:— Girls.—Under 19: S. Wasley (Burnside), winner. Under 17: S. Havill (Westport), third. Under 15: J. Turner (Burnside), winner. L. Havill (Westport), consolation plate winner. Under 13: B. O'Brien (Burnside), runner-up. Boys.—Under 19: M. Crosbie (Burnside), runner-up. Under 17: S. Wren (Sumner), winner; G. Cotton (Christchurch), runner-up; M. Allred (Burnside), third. Under 15: S. O'Brien (Burnside), runner-up: M. Penman (Linwood), special • plate winner: T. Matthews (Christchrcurch). consolation plate winner. Under 13: J. Gardiner (Marist), third: P. Franklin (Mount Pleasant), special plate winner.
