‘Concussion serious’
PA Invercargill Sports medicine experts are concerned about the way ' some sports groups are treating accidents where 1 concussion is occurring on 1 sports fields. ’ After discussion during the national conference of the ! New Zealand Federation of ; Sports Medicine at Invercargill at the week-end, the federation’s national council said. “Loss of consciousness, even brief, caused by a blow ’ to the head has potentially 1 serious implications. It is a sign of brain damage and should be treated seriously. “It can result in perman- ” ent disability or death. Immediate responsibility rests with all sports officials, particularly with those with first aid or medical training. “It is essential that the injured player seeks medical advice before returning to a future participation in sport," the council said.
