Police car victim improves
PA Auckland Doctors will not know for several months whether an Auckland law student has suffered brain damage from injuries he suffered when he was hit by a police car in March. lan Bruce Craig, aged 24, has regained consciousness in the neurosurgical ward of Auckland Hospital. He was hit by the police car as it turned from Queen Street into Wakefield Street about 11 p.m. on March 20. Mr Craig suffered multiple head and body injuries. The medical superintendent at Auckland Hospital, Dr D. W. Beckett, said that Mr
Craig’s condition was steadily improving. He was now able to stand unaided, although he could not walk because he was still in plaster. He was beginning to speak in whispers, and appeared tc be regaining his full faculties, said Dr Beckett yesterday. But it would probably be six months before doctors could tell how fully his brain had recovered from the damage. The Commissioner of Police, Mr R. J. Walton, said that he was still awaiting an opinion from the Crown Law Office on a. report of the accident.
