Five in Colts trial

Five Canterbury players have been named for the New Zealand Colts rugby trial at Palmerston North on June 23, but one of them will almost certainly have to withdraw.

Tony Thorpe, who made his debut for the Canterbury A team against Queensland this season, broke his jaw in two places when playing for Country against Mid-Canter-bury last Wednesday. He is expected to be out of rugby for five weeks.

Thorpe had been named as one of the locks in the Probables team. Two other Canterbury A representatives, Craig Green and Dale Atkins, have both been selected.

Green is the second fiveeighths in the Probables team and Atkins, who is endeavouring to become the first forward to win New Zealand colts selection in each of three seasons, is the No. 8 in the Possibles side. Also in the Possibles side are the promising University full-back, Andrew McMaster, and a wing from the club team, Craig McDowell..
