Changes forced in reserves
Club rugby matches on Saturday did not take their toll of any of the Town XV for its annual match against Country at Lancaster Park today.
However, changes have been forced in the reserves. Dale Atkins, who received a knock on the head and left the field on Saturday, has been replaced by Mark Meates, a fellow University loose forward.
A nagging neck injury has
ruled out the reserve hooker, Murray Hall, and his replacement is Christchurch's Mick Powley. In the backs, the Marist half-back, Steve Baker, replaces Steve Scott, and another Marist man. Phil Gibson, is included among the reserves. Town has had only one success in the last seven years — it won by one point in 1980 — and it will need to play to its best ability to relieve Country of the Craw Shield.
Country would have gained much heart from its lastsecond victory last Wednesday against a formidable Mid-Canterbury team. The Town selector, Mr Andy Holland, was impressed, with the performance of the Country pack against MidCanterbury and he believes that if the Town forwards can contain Country in that facet and win enough ball then Town should have no excuses for not finishing the victor.
