Queensland wins 41-7 over N.S.W.

NZPA Brisbane Queensland humiliated the powerful New South Wales rugby side in a runaway 41-7 victory before 17,000 cheering fans at Ballymore Oval in Brisbane yesterday. After watching Queensland score seven tries, the N.S.W. coach Peter Crittle admitted: “I’m stunned at the ease of Queensland's win.” Queensland hit form at the right time after an unimpressive start to its centenary season, losing four of its first six matches.

It was a superb tactical display by the Queensland pack to nullify N.S.W.'s 26-16 domination of the lineouts while the Queensland backs showed the kind of finishing

Australia will need in the coming Scottish tests and tour of New Zealand. The teams hit each other with everything they had in the opening minutes sparking an early flareup between the big N.S.W. second rower Steve Williams and the Queensland prop Tony D’Arcy. Superb tackles by the visiting skipper Simon Poidevin and Peter Lucas only delayed the inevitable as Queensland launched wave after wave of attacks through its try-hungry backs.

Two tries by the Lismore centre Mick Scanlon lifted New South Wales Country to a 17-7 win over Queensland Country in the curtain raiser.
