Junta buys missiles
NZPA Boston Argentina has bought French-made Matra air-to-air missiles from Libya and Soviet -Sam 7 surface-to-air missiles from Peru, the Boston Globe said yesterday, quoting United- States sources.
The newspaper quoted Reagan Administration sources as saying Argentina had been combing arms markets all over the world in search of an immediate supply of advanced weapons for use in the Falkland Islands battle against Britain.
The sources said the Argentinians had managed to obtain additional Exocet anti-ship missiles from an un known supplier. The Exocet is the low-flying Frenchmade missile responsible for sinking two British vessels, a destroyer and a transport. There was some suspicion, 'the article said, that the new supply of Exocets may have come from Peru but this could not be confirmed. Argentina is said to have had only five or six Exocet missiles at the start of hostilities. .
