Danger seen in S.M.P.s
If Federated Farmers carries remits such as that carried in Auckland, that S.M.P.S be adjusted to keep pace with the rate of inflation of. farm costs, then farmers are in danger, according to the Labour shadow minister for primary industries (Sir Basil Arthur).
Sir Basil told the annual general. meeting of South Canterbury Federated Farmers last week that farmers would be in danger from city-based opinion and from those in the Goverment who see printed money being the panacea for farmer confidence. “You must continue to lean hard on the Government and use whatever media exposure you can get to force public opinion to . demand that the Goverment make a rhal move 'on inflation, and you won’t get it with demands to increase S.M.P.S in line with inflation,” he said.
