Research grant for Lincoln
A sum of $15,000 has been presented to Lincoln College by the Auckland based fruit and produce merchants, Turners and Growers, Ltd, to help finance research in horticulture. Lincoln .is one of four research centres in New Zealand to receive a grant to mark the 60th anniversary of Turners and Growers. In each case, the $15,000 will be invested and the interest used to form the basis of annual scholarships of grants to encourage research aimed at raising standards or improving varieties of fruit, vegetables and flowers suitable for the domestic and export markets.
A cheque was presented by Mr J. P. Turner, chairman of Turners and Growers at a function at Lincoln College on Tuesday.
The other institutions to receive grants are Massey University, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries horticultural research centre at .Levin, and .the D.S.I.R. research centre at Mount Albert.
