Christchurch strong on defence
Christchurch, which at present shares the lead in the C.S.B. Cup senior rugby competition, has a reputation- for being an attacking side. However, this winter its strongest point has been its defence. In the eight rounds to date Christchurch has conceded just one try and this was against New Brighton. New Brighton has almost as good a defensive record. Christchurch managed to score one try against it and since then only Marist has
crossed the New Brighton line, and it did so just the once. Linwood, with four tries against (two by New Brighton last Saturday) and Marist, which has conceded five, are other teams which are obviously in good defensive shape. Of these sides, New Brighton has fared the best at the other end of the field. It has scored 26 tries, one fewer than University A; Burnside (22) and Marist (21) are next on the list.
