Health review questioned
PA Wellington The Labour Party has raised a number of questions about the review of community health projects announced by the Minister of Health (Mr Malcolm). The questions come from Mrs Ann Herctis, Labour's spokesman on health, and Dr M. E. R. Bassett, chairman of Labour’s committee on health. "A genuine review of all the projects receiving community health grants is welcomed but there are a number of important components in that review which the Minister must include if the exercise is to serve any useful purpose." they said. '
“A categorical assurance that the review will not lead to cuts being imposed via the backdoor. The Minister has not yet given that assurance. “The need to ensure that proper evaluation techniques are used in the review. This means that an independent specialist in community health should be included in the review team. The Minister’s announced review misses out this crucial element. “An assurance that the new projects waiting for funding at present will not be held up by this review. The Minister has not given that assurance." they said.
