An attempt to have one evening completely free of open fires in. Christchurch this winter has received the support of the City Council's clean air and health committee. . . cjty consumption was heavy. The dispensation was not granted. Cr A. J. Graham moved that the committee write to the Minister of Health (Mr Malcolm) and the Minister of Energy (Mr Birch), supporting the application for the dispensation. Cr G. Stone said that the letters should emphasise that a quick reply was needed so that the experiment could be conducted before the winter ended. Cr Stone said that it was unlikely that a peak load would result from the experiment
