New jet boat event
The South Island’s top jet boat drivers will be chasing more than $3OOO in prize money in a new event on the Rakaia River this week-end. • More than 50 drivers have entered the four classes which will be run over an 80km course from the Main South Road Bridge to the Gorge Bridge and return. Rakaia and Ashburton businessmen have. contri-
buted the prize money and Rakaia River Promotions is organising the event. Mark Cromie from Rakaia is probably the ' leading driver in the A class but Blue Derry (Nelson) and Norm Bagrie (Rakaia) will be strong challengers. Vaughan Workman, Brian Scott, Trevor Allan, Trevor McKenzie and Noel Jeffries combine to make a tight fielcT in the B class.
