Parentline in new quarters

New headquarters for Parentline, a parents’ telephone counselling service, was officially opened last evening by the Mayoress, Mrs Judith Hay. The service which was set up by the'Co-ordinating Organisation for Parent Educa-. tion in 1979, moved to its new site at 106 Wordsworth Street, Sydenham, in February. The premises are rented frojn the Ministry of Works and- ' .Development Many firms and individuals have given furniture, carpets, and other goods. A wine and cheese evening was held to celebrate the

official opening. The organisation’s chairman, Mrs Anne Marshall, thanked people for donations to the new headquarters, and outlined the work of her group. Parentline will soon be joined by a new service. Child Helpline, a telephone counselling service for children is being organised by Professor P. G. Ney, professor of psychological medicine at the Christchurch Clinical School, and Parentline. Mrs Marshall said that 26 people had volunteered to start training as counsellors on June 8. The service should start at the end of August, she said.
