‘Prisoner’ released
NZPA Melbourne A filthy and emaciated man found at a farm house in Victoria’s Wimmefa region on Tuesday may have been kept prisoner there for up to 20 years, the Victorian police believe. The man, aged 33, had been locked, each night in a tiny room at a farmhouse at Diapur, a small town in the north-west of the state, a police spokesman said. Each day he was bound and gagged and kept in a 3m x 4m yard, the spokesmansaid.
He was filthy and emaciated, and dressed in an illfitting jumper and shorts when policemen arrived at the house on Monday night. The police said the man’s parents, both in their 80s, and two middle-aged sisters also lived in the house. A detective said the man was in a 2.5 m by 2m room when found and had slept on a child’s bed which measured 1.5 m by o.Bm. The police said last evening that their inquiries were continuing. . The. man was now an inpatient at a mental institution, the police said.
