Area health boards move
PA Wellington The Government intends to introduce legislation this year to set up area health boards, according to the Minister of Health (Mr Malcolm) yesterday. He said the intended legislation would be introduced in Parliament this session for recess study by a select committee and enactment next year. Mr Malcolm said he had no fixed view or commitment at the moment as to the form the boards should take, or even where they should be formed. “Before an area health board could be formed the voice of the commmunity would need to be clearly heard in support, including the views of hospital boards." he said.
