Formality impressive

Special correspondent Palmerston North Formality looked in fine trim at Awapuni yesterday morning when she galloped in preparation for Wanganui. Formality is an impressive last start Foxton winner and could carry on her winning way in the Cameron Handicap this week-end. Working on the plough, Formality ran from the 1000 m in Imin 5.45, the final 600 m in 38.45. This was a good time as the plough was not all that fast. Formality has a handy draw to boost her charice at Wanganui. Siesta started from the 1200 m and ran the journey in Imin 17s, the final 600 m in 40.25. Siesta won like a good horse at the Marton meeting. She ran on from the back and might manage a middle distance well in the Marybank Handicap at Wanganui. Darkee Dee and Copper Kane took Imin 34.5 s for 1400 m, the last 600 m in 40.55. Sovereign’s Knight took 40s for a sprint over 600 m and Golden Sabre and Apparyl were timed from the 1000 m in Imin ss. Piu’s Pride sprinted 600 m in 40s and was going easily most of the way. Empress Eugenie and Pene Blue covered 1000 m in Imin 6.65, the final 600 m in 40.65. On the course proper, London Trader was a little better than Solitaire at the end

of 1400 m in Imin 35.25, the last 600 m in 41.25.’ He rates a good chance in the Suzuki Handicap. Nukumai is another in top order for the Suzuki Handicap and he has trained on the right way since winning the Foxton Cup. He ran 1600 m, the last 1400 m in Imin 34s and the 600 m in 41.55. He pulled hard in the

early stages of the gallop. Black Frost and King Carl ran from the 1600 m in Imin 50.55, the last 600 m in 41s. King Carl is a last start hurdler winner in the north. He is engaged at Wanganui on Monday and leaves for Australia on June 23. Goss is taking him to Melbourne where King Carl has been set the Grand National.
