J. J. BOYLE
Ballybrit, the champion two-year-old of his year and sire of seven winners from 14 runners, will join the ranks of Canterbury-based stallions next season. He will join Approval at Mrs Mary Dailey’s Chelandry Stud at Prebbleton. Ballybrit’s most recent winner is Lord Facetious, Jim Cassidy’s successful mount in the feature flat race at the Maramarua Hunt meeting last Tuesday. Lord Facetious races from the Te Awamutu stable of
Bill Sanders, who guided Ballybrit through a brilliant two-year-old campaign, one yielding seven wins and four minor placings, in 1975-76. Major successes on that campaign were in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, the 76th Avondale Stakes, the Auckland Breeders’ Plate under 61.5, conceding up to 12.5 kg and the Wellington Racing Club’s Nursery Handicap with 62.5 kg, giving away up to 15.5 kg. Ballybrit was sired by Wandering Eyes, a son of Palestine directly descended from the famous Cinna. He
has strong South Island influences on his maternal side. His dam. Banba. was got by Resurgent from Kay-ib-Marie, by Harken from Royal Vision, by Royal Chief from Golden Vision, by Paper Money. Banba also left Avenger, winner of six races on New Zealand and Australian courses. Ballybrit’s first winner was Hand In. which was successful at two and three years in Malaysia. He has had two two-year-old winners. My Balcony and Ballynook, in Australia.'
